The Devonshire is housed in a beautiful, turn-of-the-century mock tudor style mansion, located in New Malden, Surrey, England.
The home itself has an abundance of history as a private residence. In the 1970s, it moved from housing a family to housing the elderly. In very recent years, it has been fully renovated to reflect the needs of residents, while keeping true to its original look and feel.
Residents and staff enjoy the Devonshire because it is a home, is furnished like one, and is treated like one.
Devonshire's Facilities
The Devonshire's layout provides a nice mix of quiet and common areas. Each Resident can choose an atmosphere best suited to how she or he is feeling that day.
Bedrooms
Resident bedrooms are arranged on three floors. All of the rooms are singles, most with ensuites. We also have two rooms with an adjoining door, which could be used for a couple.
Each bedroom has been individually designed with matching bedspreads and curtains, wall-to-wall carpets, T.V. and telephone points, and large windows. It is important to us that our Residents feel at home; we therefore encourage them to bring personal furniture and items if they wish. View a listing of our rooms with photos.
Bathrooms
There is a Parker Bath, disabled showers, and several other bathing facilities. Devonshire staff members are there to assist Residents as needed.
Common Areas
All bedrooms have easy access to the communal areas: the lounges, dining rooms, library and outdoor areas. The hallways are large, stairwells easily manageable (there are no awkward steps or uneven levels in the home), and a passenger lift is available for our Residents. A flat screen television is located in the main lounge.
The Tranquil Garden and Patio Area are wonderful spots in spring and summer for quiet reflection, or not-so-quiet summer BBQs.
Dining Areas
The lounges and dining room are located on the ground floor, overlooking the back garden and patio area. A tea bar and meeting room are located on the second floor.
Delicious home cooked meals are served in the dining room, in the meeting room or Residents may choose to eat in the privacy of their own room.
If Residents wish a relative or friend to join them for a meal, we will happily make the arrangements.
The Devonshire's Minibus
Who doesn't enjoy an outing? The Devonshire is grateful to have a Minibus available for weekly outings and activities. We traipse all over the county to go shopping, take part in community events, and enjoy the scenery. Find out more about outings and social activities offered at the Devonshire.
