Director: Annar Mangalji has a Bachelors degree in Social Work from the University of British Columbia, Canada, is a certified Social Worker in Texas, USA, and has a diploma in Canadian Health Care Administration. Annar has over thirty six years of experience in the care field, twenty one years of which have been providing care for the elderly at The Devonshire, as well as five and a half years at Claremont House a Specialist Care Home in Weybridge. She is a certified Dementia Mapper and strongly believes in promoting quality of life.
Care Manager: Jean Loughran has her Nescott Certificate for Managers, Assessors Certificate and NVQ Level II, III and IV, and is also a certified Dementia Mapper. She has been at The Devonshire for twenty years, first starting as a Night Carer, then Senior Day Carer, Homecare Manager, Deputy Manager and for the past nine years Care Manager. Jean is a team builder and is committed to empowering her Residents and staff. She is also committed to ensuring that each and every day is meaningful for our Residents. Jean's commitment and leadership ensure the highest standards of care at The Devonshire.
Deputy Care Manager: Sally Fox has worked at The Devonshire since 1998. She started as a Carer, Senior Carer and was promoted to Deputy Manager three years ago. She covers as Manager when Jean is on holiday. Sally has her NVQ Level II in care and absolutely hates the paperwork. Sally is very popular with our Residents. Her sense of humour and her sensitivity bring enthusiasm, fun, and spirit to the Residents. She believes in making each day count!
Deputy Care Manager: Rosemond Adjei has worked at The Devonshire since 2003. She started as a Night Carer, Day Carer, Senior Carer and was promoted to Deputy Manager in 2008 to work alongside Sally. Rosemond is on maternity leave after giving birth to a beautiful baby boy. Rosemond will be returning to work in May 2010.
Administration: Veronica Taylor has been our Administrator for eighteen years. She is responsible for the day-to-day running of the office, Residents accounts, billing, payroll, budget control, ordering of supplies and general problems with maintenance as well as the ‘look' of our home. Veronica keeps us all organized and upbeat with her cheerful manner. She is a keen gardener and has personally designed the sensory garden and patio area for our Residents. Veronica believes that our Residents come first and their well-being is paramount.
Administration / Relief Assistant Care Manager: Vanessa Edwards joined our management team in 2006. She works in Administration, does quality assurance and is our relief Care Manager when our Care Manager is away. Vanessa has her NVQ Level II in Care, Basic First Aid Certificate and has recently completed a course on Crafts for Older People. She has eleven years experience in the care industry. Vanessa always has a positive outlook, wants the absolute best for our Residents, and is a great problem solver.
Training Consultant: Robbie Atkins has worked in the caring field for over thirty-five years and for the past twenty years she has specialized in Dementia Care. She started with our company as Care Manager for Claremont House, which she ran for five and a half years. Six years ago when the home was sold, she joined us at The Devonshire. Robbie is certified by the University of Bradford and has her Nescot Certificate for Managers. She has been handpicked for her sensitivity and advocacy for Residents in her care, as well as her leadership and motivation to instil awareness and high standards of care and practice in the staff team. She is a certified Dementia Mapper and is responsible for the training and development of our staff team.
Carers: We have seventeen carers on our Care Team who are on a shift pattern to ensure our Residents' needs are met twenty-four hours a day. All staff have been handpicked for their patience and empathy for the elderly. In addition to our Care Staff, we have a full team of support workers who are involved on a daily basis in the running of the home. These include our Chefs, Housekeepers, Laundry staff, Activity Co-ordinators, Maintenance persons and Clerical Support.
Senior Carer, Sam
Sam was born and grew up in Kingston and she has a beautiful baby daughter called Karly. When Sam was still at Coombe Girls School in Kingston, she worked as a supper girl at The Devonshire. When Sam left school she became a child minder, she later decided that she wanted to start a new career in care, and so she came to work at The Devonshire. Sam has her NVQ level 2 in Direct Care. Her favourite food is Chinese. Sam’s hobbies include listening to music and going out with friends. Her favourite colour is lilac.
Senior Carer, Trudie
Trudie or Trud as she likes to be called was born and grew up in Leatherhead, Surrey. She has a younger sister called Jackie. Trudie lives with her partner Gary and their hamster called ‘Myfanwy’. Her hobbies include ice skating, swimming and dancing. She enjoys listening to R&B music and her favourite drink is tea. Trudie’s favourite foods are good pasta or a hot curry. Her favourite colour is pink and she loves red roses. Trudie enjoys watching musicals as well as romantic films. If she won the lottery she would buy a big house and a blue mini cooper car, she might also buy her parents a house. Trudie’s ambition is to one day run her own cooking school, as she is very passionate about food. Trudie has just completed her NVQ level 2 in care.
Senior Carer, Anna
Anna was born in Konin, Poland. She has a twin sister Grace who lives in Chicago, USA, a sister Catherine and a brother Greg. Anna’s hobbies include swimming, cycling, outdoor pursuits, reading and history. She loves all Polish food but she also likes Roast Pork Dinners. Anna has travelled to Vienna and Prague. She would love to go to Chicago to visit her sister one day. Anna came to work at The Devonshire in 2006. Anna has just completed her NVQ level 2 in care.
Carer, Esther
Esther was born and grew up in Zimbabwe. She is one of ten children; she has five brothers and four sisters. Esther came to live in England in 2001 and for most of that time has worked at The Devonshire. Esther is married to Elias and they have two children, a son aged 16 and a daughter aged 12. When Esther isn’t working, she likes to go dancing with her friends, and her hobbies include reading romantic novels and watching romantic films. Esther would love to go to France for a holiday, as it seems so romantic. Esther's favourite colour is red and her favourite food is a traditional Zimbabwean dish called SADZA - this is thick porridge with meat and vegetables. Esther has her NVQ level 2 in care.
Carer, Aimie
Aimie was born and grew up in Worcester Park, Surrey. She has one brother named Chris, she also has four cats. Her favourite food is pizza and her favourite drink is Ribena. She likes R&B and pop music and her favourite song is Battlefield by Jordin Sparks. Aimie’s favourite colour is purple, favourite perfume is Christina Aguilera and her favourite flowers are daisies. Aimie feels really spoiled when she has her nails done and when she goes out for a meal. Aimie came to work as a carer at The Devonshire in August 2008 and has just completed her NVQ level 2 in care. Aimie’s ambition for the future is to go to university and train to be a nurse or a midwife, as she says she enjoys helping people. Aimie says that if she won the lottery she would buy a new car to drive when she has passed her test and a lovely big house with a swimming pool, she would also go somewhere very hot for a holiday but it would have to have beautiful sandy beaches. Aimie’s hobbies include swimming and shopping. She likes to celebrate her birthdays by going out with friends.
Carer, Christy
Christiana or Christy as she likes to be called was born and grew up in Accra, Africa. Christy is married to John and they have four children aged between five and ten years old. The children still live in Africa with Christy’s sister. Christy was a professional hairdresser before she came to work at The Devonshire. Her hobbies include singing, watching movies (especially musicals), listening to Gospel music and taking care of people. Christy says her favourite food is an African dish of rice and fish stew, she likes the colours black and brown, her favourite flower is the rose and she loves dogs and cats. Christy’s favourite holiday destinations are Ghana, France and the USA. Christy says her ambition is to eventually become a Health Care Manager.
Carer, Sammy
Sammy was born and grew up in Accrington, Lancashire and has a beautiful baby daughter named Daisie. She has a brother named Stephen and a sister called Nicola. Sammy moved to Kingston with her parents David and Vanessa in July 2005 and attended Kingston College, where she studied Performing Arts. Sammy loves singing and dancing and went for an audition on ‘The X Factor’. Her favourite film is Dirty Dancing and her favourite food is steak. Sammy’s hobbies include going out with her friends and socialising. Sammy came to work at The Devonshire in August of 2006 as a trainee carer.
Carer, Diana
Diana was born in Africa and came to live in England when she was a child. She has three lovely children. Diana came to work nights at The Devonshire in 2003. She has a very caring approach and is very thoughtful.
Carer, Angela
Angela was born and grew up in Leatherhead. She has two older brothers, Malcolm and Nigel. Angela went to Fairfield School in Leatherhead. When Angela left school she worked in Littlewoods for nine years. Angela has been married to Paul for eighteen years and they have two daughters Trudie and Jacqui. Her favourite food is shepherd’s pie, she loves the colour yellow and her favourite flowers are carnations. Angela’s hobbies include walking, going to the gym and puzzles. Angela has just completed her NVQ level 2 in care.
Activity Coordinator, Jo
Jo was born and grew up in Battersea, London. She has four children, two boys Adam and Robert and two girls Emma and Rose. Jo also has four grandsons. Her hobbies include learning the Italian language, cooking, gardening, going to the theatre, following her daughter on drama trips and being with her children and grandchildren. Jo says she feels spoilt when she loses weight, has new clothes and goes out to dinner with her children. She enjoys Chinese, Indian and Italian food along with the occasional glass of red wine or sweet sherry. Jo has a dog called Jake, she likes all colours and her favourite flower is the rose. Jo says if she won the lottery she would make sure all her children were provided for, for the rest of their lives. Then she would buy a small house for her and her youngest daughter that had a large garden and summer house for her grandchildren. Jo has just completed her NVQ level 2 in care.
Housekeeper, Nika
Veronika or Nika as she likes to be called came to live in England in May 2007. She was born and grew up in North East Poland. Nika said it is famous for its many lakes and beautiful forests. Nika has a brother called Adas and he is seven years old. Nika likes to travel and also enjoys watching Ingrid Bergman films. Her favourite colour is blue, and her favourite flower is the forget-me-not. Nika says she loves Polish food, her favourites being rolled cabbage leaf stuffed with meat and rice, sauerkraut, sausage and mushrooms. Nika has just completed her NVQ level 2 in care.
Housekeeper, Justyna
Justyna was born in Ketrzyn, Poland. She came to England in March 2007. Justyna has one brother called Gregory. Her hobbies are photography, travel, sports and movies. Justyna enjoys eating seafood and chicken. She has travelled to Spain, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands and France. Justyna came to work at The Devonshire in 2007. She has just completed her NVQ level 2 in care.
Chef, Rafael
Rafael is married with two sons. He came to work at The Devonshire in 2003. His background is working in a hospital dealing with ordering and logging of medication. He does a wonderful job with all our meals, inventories and ordering. He’s an all-rounder and is always helpful and kind.
Maintenance Man, Hugo
Hugo was born and grew up in Argentina, South America. He has two sisters and three brothers. Hugo met his wife Juanita in Buenos Aires and they came to live in England in 2006. They have no children. Hugo worked as a decorator until he came to work at the Devonshire as our maintenance person. Hugo loves his job and is responsible for all the repairs and maintenance at The Devonshire. He is also responsible for the general refurbishment and decorating programme, maintaining the carpets, all of the heavy cleaning and the garden and front drive. Hugo keeps himself fit by playing lots of football which he says he enjoys very much. He said that if he and his wife Juanita won the lottery they would buy a lovely house here in England. His favourite food is barbecues, he likes the colours blue and black and he likes the smell of Jasmine as a perfume and a flower.
Laundress, Selvi
Selvi was born and grew up in Sri Lanka. She lived there for twenty four years with her mother, two brothers and two sisters. After she left school she became a teacher. She then married Yuvarahah and they moved to Denmark where they lived for fifteen years before moving to England in 2004. They have two children, Nisha who is sixteen years old and Shan who is thirteen years old. Selvi enjoys going to Germany for her holidays as this is where her mother lives. Her hobbies include shopping, listening to the radio, watching television, cycling and cooking lots of different food dishes. She likes the colours pink, orange and yellow. Selvi says her favourite flowers are roses, lilies, lotus and sunflowers.
Professional Development: All our staff are required to participate in induction and foundation training within their first six months of tenure, after which they are required to attend a minimum of twenty-four hours of in-service training each year. In addition to this, they are encouraged to participate in our in-house NVQ on-the-job training which is sponsored by The Devonshire during working hours. At present, fifteen have completed NVQ Level II and two are working towards their Level II award.
